I have a Masters of Make-Up Artistry, a teaching certification in Micro Pigmentation (Permanent Cosmetics/Make-Up), and hair artist located in Albuquerque, NM, but am also able to travel as needed to other locations nationally and internationally. I am available to work in any realm of the Make-Up and Hair industry and enjoy a challenge. I have worked on print ads, short films, TV/video productions, and special occasions. My specialty is SKIN, as per my company’s name – BJ/BJ Styled.
What is BJ Styled – I am BJ, and Styled is the website entity, my name is Beth-JilliAnne Iversen, I prefer to go by Beth JilliAnne. Instead of just putting Make-Up Artist on everything, I decided to dub myself a “skin artist”. My definition of a skin artist is: one who works with skin and makes art out of it, such as Make-Up, Permanent Make-Up, Tattooing, Design, and Airbrushing, and I am constantly working on other avenues of Skin Art, so there is definitely more to come, therefore, I am a Skin Artist.
I am repeatedly asked how I got started, and the answer is: passion, desire, early talent, and the love of making skin into art. My mother was a cosmetologist, and I literally got started doing hair art very young, I think my mother gave me my first perm at around 3. I remember playing with the curlers before that and hanging out at the salon with my mother at age 12, since then I have done the makeovers of many friends and family. I was surrounded by the sights and smells of the salons, I was hooked. So now I am currently spending a lot of my time in cosmetology school (finally), it is not what I expected, but a necessary avenue to encompass all my education, style, talent, art and love for this industry.
In 2000, I finally decided to try my luck in Los Angeles, California in respect to Make-Up school to pursue a career as a Make-Up Artist. Although I pursued a college education first (to make sure I knew what I really wanted to do with my life), I had been doing makeup and hair for photo shoots, weddings, and for fun on the side. I continued to do this while seeking a future career. I received an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. I finally talked my parents into checking out a Make-Up Artist school, the Make-Up Designory “M.U.D.”, located in Burbank, California. After we checked out the school, my mind was made up and off to California I decided to go, but wait, it is not that simple…of course I had to wait for openings in the classes…and 6 months later they called to tell me I was in. I had about 2 weeks notice before the classes started to pack, move, find a place to live, buy furniture, find a job and start classes. So in March of 2001 I was off to Los Angeles, I arrived with my father late on a Wednesday night, and classes started that following Monday. We found an apartment on Thursday, furniture Friday, no job yet, and dad was headed back to Albuquerque on early Saturday evening. I literally had no one to fall back on, I was completely on my own. I have never been so scared and excited at the same time in my life. Classes started Monday and I was in love.
After graduating from MUD, working on sets and serving at the Tam O’Shanter Inn, things were really picking up in 2002 for me, I wasn’t having to work at the restaurant but a few days a week and life was living up to my dream of the “glitz and glam” of Hollywood I had so strived for. Then life took a funky turn and there I was with a broken shoulder, and other injuries (from the restaurant) and unable to work, a month and a half later, after couch surfing and living out of my car and on credit cards, my father said “why don’t you come home”. So 2 days later I was on the road back to Albuquerque and my parent’s house. That day was one of the hardest days of my professional life, it felt like I had to let my dream go…
Now, I am working hard trying to make a living in this industry out here. I am the owner of my own business after working for people and salons, I chose to work for ME, I still have a day job, but I am continuing to build my business and totally submerge myself in this life again. I continue to take classes to further my skill level and marketability. I am always looking to continue building my experience, as I never want it or me to get out of date. I believe in what I do and my motto is “a gentle touch, with your perfection in mind”. I know you are fabulous, but I can help you look even more fabulous.

Thank you so much,
